Reading a report

Understanding the report layout, results and evidence.

The report is a permanent HTML page (plus PDF) that summarises everything we verified. It is immutable and versioned — if a dispute arises, a new version supersedes the old one.

Report structure

  1. Header — candidate name, role, hiring employer, reference number, date shipped, version.
  2. Summary — per referee: ✓ Verified, ! Discrepancy or ✕ Not confirmed, plus a short tally line.
  3. Verification grid — five rows (one per check) × each referee. Every non-green cell expands to show its evidence.
  4. Referee insights — the referee's competency answers, attributed ("The referee reports…"), only shown when the referee confirmed the employment.
  5. Non-response — referees who did not respond, with the reason (undeliverable, declined, or no reply).
  6. Activity — every event as a timestamped sentence, on a tamper-evident record.
  7. Technical detail — the raw sender and mail records a domain published, timestamps and the tamper-evident record, collapsed by default.
  8. Footer"PreHire reports verification evidence. Hiring decisions, and any judgement drawn from this evidence, rest with the employer."

Check results

Each of the five checks produces one of:

ResultMeaning
✓ VerifiedThe check passed.
! DiscrepancyThe check found something that differs from the claim.
✕ Not confirmedThe check could not be confirmed.
Not yet runThe check has not run yet — there is no data.

The verification grid

This is the core of the report. Every non-green cell expands to show the underlying evidence: the actual email address and mail records, the Companies House name and number, the two date pairs side by side. No cell is hidden.
